I was able to brush it off, but eventually it would require cleaning that might damage the signature. I decided to search Amazon.com for something to protect the ball but still allow its display, and found the BaseQube. I ordered one, and liked it so much that I ordered more. The plastic (Lucite?) is very clear, and it was so carefully molded and trimmed that I could not at first determine where the seams were to pull it apart. It looks good, and fits together great.
